The press conference made all the speculation official today. Tony Stewart is leaving Joe Gibbs racing at the end of this season to form what will be called Stewart Haas Racing. The new driver/owner Stewart claims this step is “a huge turning point in my career.” No details were given as to future car number, sponsors, crew chief or the second car’s driver. It was also announced that crew chief Greg Zipadelli will stay with Joe Gibbs Racing and to which Stewart claimed this was not a “divorce” between the two because they will remain friends. Gibbs Racing will have a separate press conference sometime on Saturday.
