The biggest news on Friday turned out to be the Craftsman Truck Series race and Kyle Busch’s broken transmission. It should have been Scott Speed’s first win in that series, after all, he did it in only six starts.

Rev’Jim’s RantsnRaves and Restrictor-Plate This give us their thoughts on Speed’s first NASCAR win, as does Do You NASCAR?

There was no news on Trackside Live that warranted delaying the broadcast of the Truck race, except maybe the fact that the show won’t be all about Darrel Waltrip for the rest of the season. Maybe they can actually interview the guests, now.

In between Darrel’s “Me, me me” antics Tony Stewart pretty much said the same thing he has been saying about his contract negotiations, that there have been offers from other teams, ownership is interesting, and “it doesn’t cost a dime to listen.”

He did, however remark that the media hype is the result of JGR publicizing the fact that they were in contract negotiations with Smoke. “It is just like what happened when they announced (negotiations for his current contract) in 2004. Suddenly every other team contacted me…Next time they should remember to keep quiet about it.”

Next time? That says a lot.

The big news, so far  this weekend, was Joey Logano’s debut in the Nationwide Series. He did everything that was expected and finished a respectable sixth. This actually made me think about how the Nationwide Series could achieve greatness, if NASCAR had not dropped their plans for making 21 the minimum age for the Cup Series. Just think about how good that series could be if guys like Logano, Cassell, Bires, and Coleman had to stay in Nationwide for a few more years.

Trouble in Turn 2 once again presents his excellent race preview, and for something different check out the drivers’ astro-predicitions on Church of the Great Oval. Yes, Clance’ is back, and though I am bending the rules of this blog a little to feature her blog, I am confident she will soon be joining us. At least I hope she does. I have asked her very nicely to join.

Of course, there is always good reading at NASCAR This Week, as David (known here as Ovalscream) and Monte present their views. Don’t let the new look throw you off.

And, as always, we wish you a happy race day, and thank you for reading our blog.
