By now, it is likely we have all read about the big change in Speedway Motorsports Incorporated. Humpy Wheeler, promoter extraordinaire and President of Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Since Rev’ Jim posted some speculation on the timing of the announcement, there has been some change in the story, according to Scene Daily.com. It seems that Humpy’s retirement wasn’t all his idea. He wouldn’t elaborate on that, though.
“Some of it’s on my own terms,” Wheeler said Wednesday during a news conference at the track. “I won’t say it all is. But some of it is. And I will let it rest at that.”
But now he’s planning on changing NASCAR. It is very possible that he will soon have a job with the sanctioning body, and, reflecting on what he did for racing in general as president of one track, think what he could do for the sport as an officer of or consultant to NASCAR.
Some of the ideas he is already considering include these thoughts:
“The current condition of the car of tomorrow concerns me a great deal, as it does many people,” Wheeler said. “… That car has become a very difficult thing to get around the race track, and I’m not sure that those guys in the garage area can fix it themselves.
“I think NASCAR is probably going to have to do something to that car to make it work better, particularly on the intermediate tracks.”He also said race tracks must hire “racers” to run their race tracks and get fans through the ticket gates.
“We need racers running the sport,” Wheeler said. “In some cases, that’s not happening right now, and it’s creating some problems.”
If anybody could “make it happen,” it would be Wheeler, who has spoken on behalf of both fans and drivers for the betterment of racing.
Bob of the NASCAR Ranting and Raving Blog, has changed things around on Mike of Trouble in Turn 2, or “turned the tables,” to be more exact. Mike has been featuring many of us NASCAR Bloggers in his “Know Your NASCAR Bloggers” series of interviews. Now Bob interviews Mike, here.
Marc of Full Throttle, talks about many changes in “NASCAR News You Can Lose-or Not,” in which he tells about a change in the NASCAR fan base, albeit a small one, the change in Carl Edward’s sponsorship, and much more.
Somehow we missed a change in FrankFSO’s site, Fantasy Sports Outlook. That is now a forum-based site, which I think is an innovative and brilliant idea for a fantasy sports site. And Frank, it is okay if you would like to post something here about your site. You have done a lot for the NASCAR Bloggers Full Throttle group at Blogcatalog, and you are very welcome to promote your site here.
